Never Forget The Name Of A Murderer

Cameron Todd Willingham
Holds up his daughter
“Amber, I love you – reach up your hands to the sky.”

Sometimes I wake up
And grab on to anything
Like it’s the blanket my grandmother’s twin sewed for me.

Heartbreak injections
Die for corrections
With three burning daughters – no reason for fathers to live.

Heartbreak injections
Die for corrections
False accusations – Governor Perry, you’ve shamed us all.

Cameron Todd Willingham
Holds up his daughter
“Amber, I love you – reach up your hands to the sky.”

Sometimes I wake up
And grab on to anything
Like it’s the blanket my grandmother’s twin sewed for me.

My country died a little
But this man meant a lot
To three golden daughters and the family you forgot.

And hate will rain torrential on your ego.
I hope it rains forever.
I hope it rains forever.
I hope it rains forever.
I hope it rains forever.

NOTE: I had a piece on music experimentalism going for today, but after reading this (thanks for the heads up, Josh), I felt this was more important. This poem has a melody already – I adapted the idea to fit a song I’m working on. Reading, or even just thinking, about this story makes my stomach twist. Please read that article as well as the background story, and share it with those close to you. Our nation has murdered innocent people. Never forget that until something is done.
